Hadyn Symphony No.44, E minor In its upcoming program, the Willoughby Symphony presents works from 18th Century masters. Composed over a period of just 60 years, the Water Music of Georg Frederick Handel, trumpet concerto by Leopold Mozart (Wolfgang's father) and the Symphony No 44 by Franz Joseph Haydn exhibit the full gamut of human emotion. Written in the characteristically moody 'storm and stress' style, Haydn's 'Mourning' Symphony features a luminous slow movement that the composer reportedly asked to be played at his funeral. The Willoughby Symphony will accompany Baroque trumpeter Simon Wolnizer (Australian Brandenburg Orchestra) in the trumpet concerto by Leopold Mozart. The older Mozart's musical output was dwarfed by that of his son. He is best known to us for his treatise on violin technique, however in his lifetime Leopold enjoyed popularity and fame as a prolific composer. His trumpet concerto in D Major is one of his best known works and is considered a standard work in the repertoire for the instrument. The Water Music in F Major is the first part of the well known suite by Handel. Its buoyant bourees and graceful airs have been delighting audiences for centuries. Sarah-Grace Williams (pictured) is the Assistant Conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra and was recently awarded a Churchill Fellowship to continue her conducting studies abroad.
